National Day of the Cowboy

The Briscoe Western Art Museum celebrates National Day of the Cowboy with a free community event for all ages. Highlights include live Texas Swing music by Railhouse Band, art making activities, Cowpoke games, Museum tours, a cowboy artist-in-action, authentic Chuck Wagon cooking, food truck grub and beer, and more! All ages are welcome and admission is free so mosey on down with your family and friends. 




The line-up for this year's event includes:

  • Cowpoke Games:
    • “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out” Shooting Gallery
    • Felt Horseshoes
    • Stick Pony Making and Barrel Racing
  • Bandana Screenprinting with Chris Davila
  • Artist-in-ActionJason Scull (Sculptor and Member, Cowboy Artists of America)
  • Typewriter Rodeo: Crafting custom poems on the spot 
  • Chuck Wagon Cooking: Sandra Gammill-Julian and The Rollin' Texas Style chuckwagon serving biscuits and peach cobbler
  • Lil Partners Zone: Lounge on our campfire pillows, peruse books on cowboys and the West, and take a minute to relax in the A/C. Books provided by the San Antonio Public Library
  • Western Photo Spot: The perfect spot for selfies complete with props and wanted poster frames
  • Tours: Explore cowboys, cowgirls, and vaqueros with a docent on a fun tour of the Museum (Adult, Family, & bilingual groups)
  • K Bill BBQ Food Truck: On the River Driveway
  • Cool Down Corral:
