2018 Summer Film Series: Warhol and the Western

In conjunction with our summer Pop Art exhibition, the fifth annual Briscoe Summer Film Series is inspired by Andy Warhol’s Cowboys & Indians suite, which portrays historical and mythic icons of the American West. The series was curated by Andrew Patrick Nelson, Assistant Professor of Film History and Critical Studies at Montana State University. He will introduce each film and discuss connections between it and selected prints from the Warhol exhibition. Join us for a great flick, food-truck fare, free popcorn and beer by Ranger Creek$5 suggested donation. Free museum admission from 4:00 to 9:00pm every Tuesday.

Silverado (1985/135 minutes/PG-13)

Released at the same nostalgic cultural moment as Warhol’s Cowboys & Indians, this energetic, reverential (and very ’80s) take on the Western from Lawrence Kasdan (screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark) sees a group of misfit gunfighters bringing justice to a small frontier town. Lecture begins at 6:00pm followed immediately by the film.
