After 40+ years of sculpting, I’m still in awe of the ever changing subtleties  of nature and the impact such changes have on the artistic inner spirit.  The simple turn of a foot, the drop of an eyelid, the nuance of a smile – the observations of which can be the lifeblood – the heartbeat – of a new, interpretive creation of art.

The Briscoe Western Art Museum encourages and embraces the new, the interpretive.  And all the while supporting the traditional values each artist brings to the fore.

H.L.Mencken is quoted: “You can’t do anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about its width and depth.”  The artists in this show continually prove their width and depth!

Garland A. Weeks was born in Amarillo, Texas, in 1942, graduated Wichita Falls Senior High School in 1961, Graduated Texas Tech University in 1967, and is happy living on the High Plains of Texas in 2014.  Life in Texas is good --- everyone else should be so lucky!
