Paul Kethley

Paul Kethley

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, Paul Kethley has come a long way from his roots, exchanging Bayou country for the breathtaking beauty of the West.  Kethley’s  artistic talent was evident at an early age and he began taking private art classes at age 11. Within a couple of years, his teacher invited him to join her college drawing classes. After earning a degree in business in 1974, Paul immediately headed for Denver, Colorado where he worked various sales and marketing positions for 15 years and painted during his spare time. “I began creating paintings that told stories after visiting a Frederic Remington exhibit of western paintings at the Denver Art Museum. By 1987, I had made contacts resulting in some major sales from a local bank and was in a local gallery.”

Paul opened his own studio in Evergreen, Colorado in 1989 after leaving his full-time job in the printing industry to concentrate on his art. While there, he sold commissioned paintings, taught drawing and painting lessons, and sold art supplies.

In 1999, Paul married his wife Lisa and relocated to Buena Vista, Colorado. Although Paul’s basic interest is the historical West, he has also painted more modern settings which originate from his backpacking trips. “I like to depict figures interacting with the environment; campfires, cowboys, vaqueros, Native Americans, wildlife and fly fishermen, I want to get viewers involved in the in the interaction with the figures and give them the freedom to finish the story.”
