Greg Kelsey

A self-taught artist and a member of the National Sculpture Society, Greg Kelsey was born in Pauls Valley, OK in 1971 and currently resides in Ignacio, CO.

An honest look at Greg Kelsey’s sculpture reveals his intensity for both form and subject.  No matter what is being portrayed, it is his belief that form is the most significant thing about a sculpture.  Kelsey states, “It is a powerful combination when form and subject are both meaningful”.  Melding sculptural form with the powerful visions of Western history, and modern day cowboy living, inspires Kelsey to create.  He feels strongly that the story of the Western life is worth being told in an authentic way.

Kelsey has been honored with numerous awards including the Briscoe Museum’s Night of Artists 2015 Purchase Award, 2015 Committee’s Choice 3D Award, and the 2012 Committee’s Choice Award.  Other awards include 2015 Quest for the West Cyrus Dallin Award for Best Sculpture and 2011 Quest for the West Purchase Award at the Eiteljorg Museum, and the People’s Choice at the 2007 C.M. Russell Art Show and Auction.  Museum collections include the Briscoe Western Art Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum, and the C.M. Russell Museum. Greg is currently represented by the Legacy Galleries in Jackson, WY and Scottsdale, AZ, Settlers West Gallery in Tucson, AZ, and Sorrel Sky Gallery in Durango, CO.  He is an inaugural member of the Russell Skull Society of Artists (2014).
