Mark Kohler

Mark Kohler

Mark Kohler is an award-winning watercolorist; among his awards are the Cowboy Artists of America Founders Award and the Phippen Museum Foundation Award.  “I want to document the independent spirit and pride that the modern cowboy has inherited from his predecessors.  It is uniquely American and worthy of preservation.”

Mark is privileged to be invited to some of the oldest, traditional ranches still left in the country, such as the O RO Ranch outside Prescott, AZ and the Pitchfork Ranch in the Texas Panhandle.

Mark now works in both oils and watercolors; his work is carried by art galleries in Santa Fe, NM, Charlotte, NC, and San Antonio, TX.  His 2016 work schedule is also dominated by numerous requests for commissioned paintings, which are eagerly sought by his many collectors.

He has also added teaching to his expanding schedule, hosting personal workshops for interested students.  His work has been displayed, along with editorials on his career, in Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, Art of the West, Cowboys & Indians, Western Horseman and Western Magazine, a French publication that celebrates the American West.

Mark’s work is in private and corporate collections across the country.  He has also published a 192-page coffee table book, Mark Kohler, Working Cowboys, and collaborated with author Kathy McCraine on a sold-out Cowboy Cookbook, titled Cow Country Cooking, which was awarded the Will Rogers 2011 Medallion Award for “Best Cookbook”, and was named a “Top Pick” in the Southwest Books of the Year, Best Reading of 2011.
