The Briscoe Seventh Birthday Celebrating the Many Colors of the West on October 24 will mark the museum’s anniversary with an entire day dedicated to celebrating the diversity of the West. The day will begin with the unveiling and installation of “Once Upon a Time”, a new work created by award winning artist Mark Maggiori to highlight the story of working Black cowboys.
Additional programming includes a lecture with Black Cowboy Museum Curator Larry Callies whose stories inspired Mark Maggiori, the Bexar County Buffalo Soldiers, cowboy poet and storyteller Clifton Fifer, and a take-home activity for families that further highlights the diversity of the West.
Become a part of the West and join in on the celebration by dressing up in your best Western gear. Participants will receive a 20 percent discount off standard admission for one person in their party.
Individually wrapped cupcakes to celebrate the Briscoe turning seven and a take-home craft. Lil Partners can draw themselves saddling up and riding the range using the supplies included. Parents are encouraged to take a photo of the masterpiece and post it to social media, tagging @briscoemuseum and #ManyColorsoftheWest for a chance to win a family membership to the Briscoe and four Briscoe Fiesta medals. The Briscoe’s birthday celebration is included with museum general admission. As always, children 12 and under receive free admission, as do active duty members of the military, making the Briscoe a terrific spot for families to enjoy.
