Across history, contemporary artists have been inspired by events, people, and romanticized scenes of the past. By creating works of art that allow us to visualize the past, artists inform our understanding of history and help us to interpret it through a contemporary lens. The latest works in Briscoe’s New Works Gallery feature inspiration drawn from the fledgling conservation movement; the power and advancement of the U.S. military; the thrill and danger of riding the range; and the poise and glamour of traditional lifestyles and clothing. Join the Briscoe’s Curator of Art Emily Wilson to explore the stories behind the prints, paintings and saddles on display, including one with a unique tie to gangster history that features photography from the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, VA.
