A Look at the Janey Briscoe  Marmion Collection

Janey Briscoe Marmion, daughter of Governor Dolph and Janey Briscoe grew up in Uvalde, TX and was an avid art collector.  A philanthropist, Briscoe Marmion was incredibly supportive of the Briscoe Western Art Museum.

The Briscoe Marmion estate includes some of the most important names of Texas and Western art, including Julian Onderdonk, Melvin Warren, Porfirio Salinas, and James Robinson, a Texas-born artist who specialized in Hill Country ranching scenes.  Indeed, most of her collection reflects her love of Texas regional art.  The collection includes several scenes of bluebonnets, limestone cliffs along the Guadalupe River, and images depicting the wildness of the Texas landscape.  The collection in this gallery reflects, not only her love of Texas and Western art, but also her commitment to supporting the Briscoe.

This month, Mark Sanchez, Education & Programs Coordinator will lead a discussion and tour of the newly installed Janey Briscoe Marmion collection in the Kate Marmion Gallery.
