Event Details

This quarter’s lecture will focus on Chinese immigrants in the West. Artist Mian Situ has distinguished himself as a Western artist whose work illustrates the stories of Chinese in 19th century California. His paintings depict events during the 1849 Gold Rush, the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, and scenes from everyday life in a new land. Situ will present on his work, using it as a vehicle to relate actual events from the lives of immigrants and how they have impacted the cultural heritage of the West Coast.
