Dr. Judy Sobre will discuss the fundamentals of the Western art genre based on the Briscoe’s collection. While many people are familiar with the themes of Western art, few understand the genre, the techniques involved in its creation, and its place within the larger context of American art. Dr. Sobre’s presentation will help bring visitors to a better understanding of Western art and its value.

Dr. Judy Sobre is a professor of art history at University of Texas: San Antonio. She has been teaching at UTSA since 1974 and holds a MA and PhD in European art history from Harvard. Judy has been a docent with the Briscoe for several years and has lately been developing and teaching a class on Western American art, using the Briscoe’s collection as the foundation for her lessons.
