Hendler Family Museum Store

The Briscoe Western Art Museum Store offers a selection of books, arts and crafts, handmade jewelry and a variety of merchandise, relating to the museum’s collection.

All items are carefully chosen for their educational and aesthetic quality in keeping with the museum’s mission of enhancing visitor appreciation of art, history, and culture of the American West reflective of the region’s rich traditions and shared heritage. 

The Briscoe Western Art Museum received a substantial gift from Laura and Barry Hendler along with their children, B.J. and Sarah Hendler, Joe and Gretchen Hendler, and Holly Hendler Gilleland. The Hendlers share a passion for Western art, specifically as it relates to Texas history, and hold deep respect for the museum’s namesake, the late Governor Dolph and Janey Briscoe. Proceeds from the gift will support the museum’s operations, and in turn, the Briscoe Board of Directors will name the museum’s retail operation the Hendler Family Museum Store.

“The roots of this gift are special,” according to Liz Jackson, Vice President. “Ironically, the Hendler family owned and operated an upscale women’s clothing store in Temple, Texas, post-WWII. So this naming gift for our retail store seems most appropriate.”  The museum has rebranded the museum store and borrowed attributes from the Temple, Texas clothing store’s original logo with a recreation of the scripted lettering. “The branding visually ties the museum store name to the family while communicating the family history in retail and the region.”  The museum staff and board of directors are most appreciative of the Hendler family gift.
